Justin Webber

My name is Justin Webber, I am the middle child of five boys, and born on 1st of September 1990, in a country town of New South Wales called Taree, where I was partially raised.

From age 13 to 15, my family and I moved to various locations, finding our way to a town in Richmond Valley Shire of the Northern Rivers called Evans Head. I had always been quite passionate about creative arts – music, acting, painting, drawing -, therefore, during that time, with the support and encouragement of my family, I participated in several painting competitions.

At age of 16, after I finished year 10, I moved out of home to explore my independence rippling my way to Airlie Beach – Whitsundays, but, as expected for a young and unexperienced boy who wanted to figure out life on his own, refusing to ask for help, I found myself with no money or job, living in a cabin with a friend for three weeks, eating fish (that we caught) to survive, until I found a trade in construction. I also got a few casual work on different islands on tourist boats as a deckhand.

By the time I was 18, I was developing a very strong interest towards music. I taught myself how to play guitar and started to have a go at song writing. Therefore, by age 20, I decided to go to Melbourne – Victoria, to get involved in and expand my knowledge about the music industry. But that did not work out the way I planned! I was unable to stay focused, I felt the need to be closer to my grandparents, to help them, as they were showing signs of struggle, they lived in Taree, and for this reason, I moved to the harbour city of New South Wales, New Castle, where I found a job as a concreter.

Between spending time with my, now, late grandparents and working, by age 22, I decided to take acting classes, so auditioned for screen acting at NIDA (The National Institute of Dramatic Art), which is based in Sydney – New South Wales.

After being accepted by NIDA, I moved to Sydney to get involved in the acting industry, where I worked in a number of plays, short films (in which, one won an underground film festival in the University of New South Wales), and two feature films: Teenage Kicks by Craig Boreham, and Memories of Michael by Andrew Gordon (Memories of Michael won the award for Best First-Time Filmmaker at the Auckland International Festival. It was also a semi-finalist at this year’s Phoenix Film Festival in Melbourne).

I, also, worked part-time job in construction and studied health and fitness, achieving my Certificate III and IV in Personal Training.

But, throughout all this sporadic experience, by age of 27, I realized that music is where my heart is at.
Since last year, I have been gigging at different venues around Sydney, performing both originals and covers. Within 12 months, I have composed – melodically and lyrically -, recorded and produced six songs for my debut EP: work.
